WAX CARVING RING WORKSHOP

Learn the traditional skill of wax carving with Norfolk goldsmith April Dace in this hands on jewellery workshop.

Over a 2.5 to 3 hour session, you’ll design and carve your own wax ring, using jeweller’s wax and specialist hand tools. Wax carving is an accessible way to design jewellery, allowing you to focus on shape, texture, and form without working directly in metal.

April will guide you through the process, explaining the tools, techniques, and creative possibilities as you work, so you understand what you’re doing while still having the freedom to make the design your own.

This workshop is suitable for complete beginners and for anyone curious to try a different approach to jewellery making.

BEGINNER FRIENDLY

CASTING AND METAL OPTIONS

Casting and metal costs are not included in the workshop price, as they depend on your design choices.

 

If you choose to have your ring cast, the following applies:

 

Casting and finishing fee: £60
This covers casting your ring and finishing it so it’s ready to wear. You can choose a polished, satin, or sandcast finish.

 

Silver supplied by April: £5 per gram
As a rough guide, a lighter or standard ring is often around 5 grams (approximately £25), while a heavier or chunkier ring may be closer to 10 grams (approximately £50).

 

Gold: Quoted individually must be pre booked
Gold prices vary, so April will explain options during the workshop or please feel free to reach out prior to the workshop to discuss further. .

 

Using your own metal:
You’re welcome to bring your own silver or gold. April will assess it during the session and, if suitable, the metal cost is waived. Any additional preparation work will be discussed clearly on a case by case basis.

 

All options and costs are explained at the start of the workshop. There’s no obligation to go ahead with casting on the day.

Finished rings are typically ready around four weeks after the workshop.

WHAT TO EXPECT

Everything you need for a relaxed, creative session is provided – all tools, materials, and tuition. Just bring yourself and your curiosity. (optional - bring scrap or old silver if you’d like to repurpose something meaningful).

  • 2.5 to 3 hour hour guided workshop (arrive up to 15 minutes early to settle in)

  • All tools provided (sterling silver/gold available to purchase per gram with option to bring your own scrap silver or gold for casting)

  • Small, friendly group of up to 6 guests

  • Suitable for complete beginners (ages 16+)

  • Refreshments included: teas, coffee (regular or decaf), soft drinks, and sweet treats.
